This guide takes you from the zip file to your first gem. Do the steps in order and take your time. You do not need to know anything about computers.
Right-click GemFarmer_tester.zip and choose Extract All. Put the new folder somewhere simple, for example on your Desktop or in C:\Gemhaul.
Do not run it from inside the zip. Windows will not let it work.
Start Rise of Kingdoms, log in with your spare account and leave the window open on the map. Do not minimize it.
start_app.batIt is in the folder you unzipped. Windows asks for permission, so click Yes. The program needs this to click in the game.
The first time it installs a few helper programs by itself. This can take 5 minutes. A black window shows what it is doing. Do not close the black window. If it says to close the window and start again, do that.
A window opens with the title Gemhaul. Leave the black window running behind it.
If you see a License box, paste your key into it and press Save key. If you do not see this box, skip this step.
Every line should have a green tick. A red cross shows a short help text under it. The two you are most likely to meet:
start_app.bat again. It installs the text reader the second time.Gemhaul comes with a picture of a gem deposit and of the game buttons, so most people can skip this whole section. Do it only if the gem picture has a red cross in the check list, or if the bot never finds gems that are clearly on your screen.
In the game, move the map until a red crystal pile (a gem deposit) is in the middle of the screen.
In the Gemhaul window open Tools and press Make my gem picture. A picture of your game opens.
Hold the left mouse button and drag a box around only the red crystals, then press Enter. A tight box works better than a big one.
The bot only searches inside the area you give it. You tell it with four numbers.
The top left of the game shows where you are, like X:1093 Y:887.
Move the map to the left edge, the right edge, the top and the bottom of the area you want.
Check each pair: the min must always be smaller than the max. Start with a small area, about 30 by 30 tiles.
Leave the other settings as they are. The window shows roughly how long one sweep takes.
The bot brings the game to the front by itself and starts after a short countdown. You do not need to click the game.
The bot uses your mouse. If you move it, the bot gets confused. The window shows live what it is doing and how many marches it sent.
You can also move the mouse into a corner of the screen. When it stops, it writes fast_summary.txt with the result.
Look at your four numbers. Each min must be smaller than its max, and none should have an extra digit. You can also leave all four empty and use the area around where you stand.
Press Stop, then start again. The bot also tries to free itself by pressing Esc and jumping back to a known spot. If it keeps happening, send me the files listed below.
Close Gemhaul and start it again with start_app.bat, and answer Yes when Windows asks.
The first time it sees a screen it does not know, it may ask. Drag a tight box around the button and press Enter. It asks only once for each button.
Small changes to buttons can need a new picture. Tell me in the Discord and I will help.
